THE EXPERIENCE

Enter Costa Rica’s Caribbean canal country.

Created in 1975, Tortuguero National Park protects an extraordinary wetland ecosystem and globally important sea-turtle nesting beaches. Much of the visitor experience takes place on water, where small boats, canoes and kayaks move through forest-lined canals.

What to expect

Expect dense tropical vegetation and opportunities to observe monkeys, aquatic birds, reptiles and other wildlife. Sea-turtle nesting is seasonal and regulated.

Good to know

Access to Tortuguero is primarily by boat or air; wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.
